Brice Davis HealthTree

By Brice Davis

Before I knew I had multiple myeloma, I became so weak I could no longer hold my one-year-old daughter.

In November 2021, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer I had never even heard of before. I was only in my early 30s.

Multiple myeloma is more commonly associated with older adults, but younger adults can develop it too. That is one reason I continue talking about what happened to me.

HealthTree recently published my multiple myeloma story on HealthTree, taking a closer look at what led to my diagnosis and what came afterward.

Why I Keep Sharing My Multiple Myeloma Story

Before my diagnosis, the words “multiple myeloma” meant nothing to me because I had never heard of the disease.

Today, sharing my experience is one way I can help bring more awareness to it, especially the fact that a diagnosis can happen at a younger age than many people may expect.

My experience also changed the way I viewed my own strength. Writing became an outlet for processing what I had gone through, and telling my story became another way to connect that experience with people who may be facing a diagnosis of their own.

I know my experience is only one person’s story. But putting a real life behind the name of a disease can help people understand that multiple myeloma does not have just one face or one age.

There’s More to the Story

The HealthTree feature goes deeper into the symptoms that became impossible for me to ignore, the diagnosis that followed, my treatment, the role my family played during that time, and how the experience shaped what came next.

I’m intentionally not repeating all of those details here. HealthTree brought those parts of my experience together in one story, along with information that helps put my diagnosis into the larger context of multiple myeloma.

If multiple myeloma is a disease you have never heard much about—or if you did not realize it could affect someone in their early 30s—I hope sharing my experience helps bring more awareness to it.
